How to make a Wi-Fi QR code

  1. Type the network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on your phone. Upper and lower case matter.
  2. Type the password. Leave it empty if the network is open.
  3. Pick a style. A dark code on a light background scans best, so keep the contrast high.
  4. Download PNG for a screen or SVG and PDF for print. Put the printed code where guests can see it.

Tips for a Wi-Fi code that works

  • Print it at least 3 cm (1.2 in) wide and test it with an iPhone and an Android phone.
  • Make a separate code for a guest network, so the main network password stays private.
  • A Wi-Fi code stores the password inside the picture. If you change the password, make a new code.

Wi-Fi QR code questions

How do guests use a Wi-Fi QR code?

They open the camera app and point it at the code. The phone shows a join button. They tap it and the phone connects. No typing is needed.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. The iPhone camera reads it on iOS 11 and later. The camera or Google Lens reads it on Android 10 and later. On older phones, use a free scanner app.

Is my password sent anywhere?

No. The network name and the password stay in your browser. The code is made on your device and nothing is uploaded.

Which network types are supported?

WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 networks with a password, and open networks without one. Old WEP networks and hidden networks are not supported.

What happens if I change the Wi-Fi password?

The old code stops working because it holds the old password. Make a new code and replace the printed one.
